US Imports Doctors from India where there is a Huge Doctor Shortage
India is suffering from a Doctor and Nurse shortage that is only getting worse. The US and its current policies is taking doctors from India and increasing the shortage there. People are suffering from lack of health care in India due to the continued issuing of visa’s to these doctors.
There are ECFMG qualified doctors here in the USA ready to serve and for a residency, but program directors continue to fill positions with these foreign doctors not based on anything but a USMLE score. Not based on US clinical experience, US culture, Language ability, Goals. Many of these doctors come to the US for one thing and one thing only; the promise of money. They see the huge incomes of US doctors compared to those in India and seek residencies in the USA. They are supposed to go back to India after residency, but by then they have a post residency Job and have brought their family over to live. Residency has become an Immigration game.
Is this truly what we want? US Doctors without a Residency and More people Immigrating to the USA?
Medical schools in India out number the USA medical schools.
There are presently 134 accredited MD-granting institutions and 26 accredited DO-granting institutions in the U.S.
The Medical Council of India currently (2011) fully recognizes 335, with a total capacity to train 40, 525 Indian medical students.
Yet India has a Doctor shortage!!!!!!!!
Why do we need to import so many Doctors from a country trying to educate doctors to fill the need here, What if US doctors wanted to go to India to fill the need? This problem we have is crazy. We should not have a problem being accepted into a residency in our own country because of IMG’s seeking more money and leaving their home country, honestly its Crazy!
NEW DELHI: Analysts said the lack of human resources in health sector is a worrying trend for India, a country with a population of 1.2 billion people.
With the population expected to grow to 1.7 billion by 2050, India is sorely lacking in doctors and nurses.
There is now only one doctor for every 2,000 persons.

Is it true that doctors from India, most of them are here on extended visa, therefore they do not have to pay income tax in the US, rather they pay it in their home country?
